Registering Email Account At IIT

This was happened when I joined IITB for M.Tech.. On Day 1, we had to sign on some policy and then apply for email id like xyz@cse.iitb.ac.in . In the rules for id selection they had mentioned that, everyone will refer in future with this id, so keep it simple and short, and don't go for fancy names. I thought, "electionreddy" might be too long(taken "keep it short" seriously) so given "election@cse.iitb.ac.in" as my id in the form.

The other day we were allowed to computer lab and asked to login to our accounts. Everyone could except me. It was saying invalid username. I went to SystemAdministrator and told the problem. She told that id "election" was already in use, so choose some other id. I thought "Ohh, some other election is already there... I am not unique in the campus...". But it was not that... She told that they had used that id for some departmental elections. :P. Then I felt... OK, mine is still unique in the campus... Then I had given my unique id "electionreddy" and was accepted.

Reply Mail from Loksatta Activist

Today I have responded to one of the Loksatta 's activities mentioning my willingness to participate in the activity. I got a reply mail saying ok for it and at the end he wants to know my original name... :-)

At ToastMasters Session

Today I have attended Toastmasters session at my workplace. I was assigned the task of counting votes to select best speaker. So the evaluator introduced me as "Today we have Voter(VoteCounter) a guest and his name suites to the task... and he is Election Reddy". I have to show my id to some of them to make them believe that its really my name. One of the speakers told that my name is unique. And as usual there was Q from someone for the story behind my name. Finally, I got The Best Listener Badge today. :-)

Fight with Facebook

I have to fight a lot with Facebook to make them accept that Election is a
name.
I have written them a mail that Election is a name and its mine :). They asked for some identification proof. Took it lite... and used My surname to make Election a name :').

Kerala Trip with Ajesh

AjeshS is one of my best friends at IITB. He is from Kerala. I went to Kerala along with him for some holidays. This was the experience in the train.
The ticket collector came to our place and looked at our ticket. As usual, asked me..
TC: Whats ur name?
Me: Election Reddy :)
TC was a south Indian... I guess he was from AP or he knew Telugu a bit.
TC guessed the story behind my name correctly without asking me. From then onwards he was showing more interest on me.. asking whether I had lunch or not... :)
Then Ajesh got an idea of writing a Story on my name like "The Curious Case of Election"
I suggested the title as "The Curious Case of Election Battu" (btw, Battu is my surname).
I told Ajesh to introduce me as Raju(is my nickname at home) to his friends and relatives so that I can save some energy.

At ICICI bank, Madhapur, 19th Mar 2010

I went to ICICI to deposit money, filled up the pay-in slip and given to a lady(A) at a counter.
She entered the account number and looked at my name....
L: (reading my name...) Elect...ronic... Reddy Battu. is it the name?
Me: No, its Election Reddy Battu
L: Shall I creit the amount?
Me: What else can u do?
L: No, I am just confirming the account name...
Me: OK.

At Workplace

- One day Some XYZ pinged me
XYZ: Hi
Election: Hi
XYZ: If u don't mind, can i ask u one thing.
Election: Sure.
XYZ: Ur name is differrent. Is there some story behind it?
Election: Same old story :)

At LandMark Bookshop

I bought some books at Landmark, Hyd. While paying money, the shopkeeper after looking at my debit card...
SK: What is ur name Sir?
Election: ElectionReddy
SK:(with smile on her face.. abt to laugh..)real name, sir?
Election: Yes, its ElectionReddy
SK: Me name chala variety ga undi Sir(Ur name is so variety).
Election: No comments...
